The DEBRA Australia Professional Counselling Program is here to support the patients, families and carers as they manage life with EB.

Experiencing a diagnosis of EB can be very distressing and many will benefit from professional support to help manage the challenges living with EB presents in everyday life.

Clinical Psychologists can work with you to identify your main concerns and develop strategies to deal with them. Best-practice research evidence supports the effectiveness of interventions that use Cognitive Behavioural Therapies (CBT), mindfulness and other therapeutic techniques for managing common concerns such as low mood/depression and anxiety.

Interventions can also help with getting a good sleep, pain/treatment impacts, changes to lifestyle, support for the carer role, communicating with others, relaxation/meditation, and living with loss and grief.  Strategies involve non-drug treatments and are “solution-focused”, so typically involve 3 to 10 appointments.  Contact can be delivered in-person, by telephone or vide-conference depending upon what works best for an individual or family.

If you have any questions or would like to talk to us about scheduling an appointment with Katie or Katharine, please call Family Support Coordinator Simone Baird on 0413 967 609 or EB Nurse Lauren Weston on 0427 937 699.
